HOW TO PREPARE IN HIGH SCHOOL
Knowing what classes to take for a career in Chemical Engineering is beneficial because it can give you an early start and insight as to what studying this field of engineering will be like in college, especially AP or IB courses.

Mathematics
Math is the basis of almost all engineering and scientific careers. High school students can better prepare themselves for college-level mathematics that are essential in Chemical Engineering by taking upper-level math like Trigonometry, Calculus, or advanced placement courses.

Chemistry
Chemical Engineers must have a strong background in chemistry. Basic knowledge like chemical reactions, vocabulary, and laboratory techniques are expected to be solid. Advanced placement chemistry possesses a strong laboratory component which can help students be familiar with the learning environment of chemical engineers in colleges and in work place settings.

Physics and Biology
Chemical engineering applies different concepts from other sciences and combines them to find solutions for problems. Sciences like physics and biology introduce concepts, like thermodynamics, that play a role in chemical engineering to be familiarized with students. This allows them to better understand topics in the college level study of this engineering.
